<p><span style="font-family: Times New Roman;"><span style="color: #000000;">(</span><span style="color: #000000;">Monterey</span><span style="color: #000000;">, </span><span style="color: #000000;">CA</span><span style="color: #000000;"> – May 10, 2013) – Nicholas Fryou, a student at </span><span style="color: #000000;">California </span><span style="color: #000000;">State </span><span style="color: #000000;">University</span><span style="color: #000000;">, </span><span style="color: #000000;">Monterey </span><span style="color: #000000;">Bay</span><span style="color: #000000;">, was named the winner of $2,000 in the 2013 Monterey County Film Commission’s Director Emeritus Richard Tyler Film Student Scholarship Award.</span><span style="color: #000000;">  </span></span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Times New Roman;">Fryou, who is from Aromas, is a senior at California State University Monterey Bay, majoring in Teledramatic Arts and Technology.He will use the award for the production expenses of a dramatic Western he plans for his Capstone, a senior film project required as a final thesis film by CSUMB. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Times New Roman;">“This scholarship will help out tremendously, and will allow me to successfully complete my Capstone project, which in turn will help jumpstart my career in film,” Fryou said. “Ever since I was very young I have had a passion for filmmaking, acting and being around the camera. It was a fun hobby that has now become a career choice in reach for me.”</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Times New Roman;"> The annual Monterey County Film Commission Director Emeritus Richard Tyler Scholarship Award is named in memory of Tyler, who served 20 years on the film commission’s board of directors. It was created to provide financial aid and incentive to students of film as well as beginning filmmakers who reside in Monterey County or those enrolled in a college or university in the county. The fund is established as a permanent endowment with the Community Foundation for Monterey County</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: Times New Roman;">This year’s scholarship is supported by a donation from Union Bank, individual donors, and by Craig and Paula Tigerman in memory of Richard Tyler.</span></p>

<p align="center"><b>Application deadline extended for Monterey County Film Commission’s $2,000 “Director Emeritus Richard Tyler Scholarship Award” </b><b>for film students</b><b> </b></p>
<p>The deadline has been extended for film students to apply for the annual film student scholarship from Monterey County Film Commission, which has been renamed the “Director Emeritus Richard Tyler Scholarship Award” in memory and in honor of Richard Tyler and his 20 years of service on the film commission’s board of directors.</p>
<p>A $2,000 award is offered (or two $1,000 awards), and applications must be received or postmarked by April 19, 2013. Winners will be announced by May 10.</p>
<p>Eligibility information and application forms may be downloaded at <a href="http://www.filmmonterey.org/">www.FilmMonterey.org</a>, or contact the film commission at 831-646-0910 or info@filmmonterey.org.</p>

<p>(Monterey, Calif.) &#8211;  As the nominees for the 85<sup>th</sup> Annual Academy Awards® await the announcement of who will win Oscars®, the nonprofit  Monterey County Film Commission is putting the finishing touches on plans for its local celebration, “Hollywood’s Big Night” party,  at Monterey’s Cannery Row Brewing Company (95 Prescott Ave.) to be held Sunday,  Feb. 24,  from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m.  Party tickets are $10 entry or $60 for reserved VIP booth seating which includes a three-course dinner.  Dress is comfortable Hollywood glam.</p>
<p>The event will gather local movie buffs to have photo ops with a celebrity-style logo wall on the red carpet, watch the live telecast of the Academy Awards® presentation on multiple screens, win prizes for guessing Oscar winners, bid on locally donated silent auction items, and take in the added fun of KSBW-TV’s news anchor Erin Clark as master of ceremonies, plus DJ Hanif Wondir throughout the evening and for end-of-show dancing.</p>
<p>And, as the Academy Awards® show goes on, attendees are invited to go to KSBW.com, follow the Oscar® link, and join the conversation about the celebrity arrivals, gowns and winners, or post their own photos from the local event.</p>

<p>Film Commission in the fundraising “Birdies for Charity” golf shoot-out qualifier at Peter Hay Golf Course on Saturday, Jan. 19.</p>
<p>The “Birdies” program, which is affiliated with the AT&amp;T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am golf tournament, benefits local nonprofits in a donation program which brings up to a 20% match for donations received up to $5,000.  Closest-to-the-pin winners at the qualifier can vie again Feb. 5 where winners can potentially earn up to $50,000.</p>
<p>To see Mendez in action and to cheer on her attempts on behalf of the film commission, come to the shoot-out this Saturday at about 9:30 a.m.  The event runs from 9 to 11 a.m. that day.</p>

<p style="text-align: left;" align="center">(Monterey,Calif.)  – The Monterey County Film Commission, in collaboration with the Museum of Monterey (MOM), brings a screening of the film, “Wait Until Dark” to the “9 Films Marking 1967” film series at the Museum of Monterey Theatre, 5 Custom House Plaza in Monterey, on Dec. 21 and 22.</p>

<p style="text-align: left;" align="center">“Wait Until Dark” is a classic suspense-thriller starring Audrey Hepburn as a young blind woman, with Alan Arkin and Richard Crenna. Terence Young directed, and Mel Ferrer produced the film.  Hepburn received a nomination for Academy Award for Best Actress.  With soundtrack by Henry Mancini, the film’s climax is ranked 10<sup>th</sup> on Bravo’s “100 Scariest Movie Moments.”<br />
The December screenings  are held in conjunction with the MOM’s exhibition, “Music, Love and Flowers:  Youth &amp; Culture Monterey 1967 &amp; Now,” which reflects some of the cultural changes of  45 years ago.</p>

<p>The film series takes place monthly on select Friday nights and Saturday afternoons in the Museum of Monterey Theatre at 5 Custom House Plaza in Monterey.  On Friday night, Dec. 21,  the museum remains open from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. with a no-host wine bar and ground floor exhibits available for viewing.  The film will be shown at 7 p.m., and again at 2 p.m. on Saturday.</p>
<p>Admission to the film is free for REEL Friends of the Film Commission members and members of MOM. General admission is $5.</p>

<p>(Monterey,Calif.)  – The Monterey County Film Commission, in collaboration with the Museum of Monterey (MOM), brings a screening of the film, “Valley of the Dolls” to the “9 Films Marking 1967” film series at the Museum of Monterey Theatre, 5 Custom House Plaza in Monterey, on Nov. 23 and 24.</p>
<p>“Valley of the Dolls” is based on Jacqueline Susann’s novel, “Valley of the Dolls,” and deals with the misadventures of a bright and brash New England college grad Anne Welles, who leaves her small town heading for Broadway and laterHollywoodon a journey for success and acceptance shared with other young actresses.  Barbara Parkins, Patty Duke and Sharon Tate star.</p>

<p><strong>Film Commission’s Karen Nordstrand elected to board of directors </strong><strong>of Film Liaisons in California Statewide</strong></p>
<p>(Monterey,CA) &#8212; Karen Nordstrand, the director of marketing and film production for the Monterey County Film Commission, was elected to serve on the board of directors of the Film Liaisons in California Statewide (FLICS) organization at its Oct. 29 meeting in Pasadena,Calif.</p>
<p>FLICS is a nonprofit organization focused on promoting and supporting California’s film and media production industry.  Its membership consists of 43 regional film commissions throughout the state, that partner in marketing efforts with the California Film Commission.</p>
<p>Nordstrand has handled the film commissioner duties of attracting and assisting film productions in Monterey County for 22 years, and is a certification candidate of the Association of Film Commissioners International.  She was elected by FLICS to serve a three-year, volunteer term.  She previously served on several FLICS events and publicity committees.</p>
<p>The Monterey County Film Commission, a nonprofit organization, was established by and is funded in part by the Monterey County Board of Supervisors.  It works to attract and facilitate on-location film production for economic development, with an annual average of $3 million coming to local communities from film business.</p>

<p>(Monterey,CA–July 12, 2012) – The Monterey County Film Commission, in collaboration with the Museum of Monterey (MOM), will bring the fun of “In Like Flint” to the monthly film series, “9 Films Marking 1967.”</p>
<p>The series is held in conjunction with theMuseumofMonterey’s 2012 exhibition, “Music, Love and Flowers:  Youth &amp; Culture Monterey 1967 &amp; Now.” The screening of “In Like Flint” will be on Friday night, July 27, and Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the Museum of Monterey Theatre at 5 Custom House Plaza in Monterey.  On Friday night the museum will be open from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. for visitors to enjoy a no-host wine bar and all museum first floor exhibits.  The film will be screened at 7 p.m.</p>
