Weather Report: Great Climate

Photographers and filmmakers have always been drawn to Monterey County for its variety of locations and a special quality of light. And the area's mild year-round weather enables productions to get their shots and stay on schedule.

Temperatures average 57 degrees year-round on the Monterey Peninsula and slightly warmer inland. Summer weather brings coastal fog in the early morning and late afternoons, when you can capture a misty, moody look. Yet just minutes away you'll find nearly non-stop sunshine.

Average rainfall is 19 inches. Even in winter the days are mild with occasional rain showers interspersed with periods of bright sunshine. Late winter and spring is our “secret summer,” with fog-free, clear and comfortable days.

Springtime dazzles the senses as hillsides turn an emerald green color, often brilliantly accented with colored wildflowers. In summer, the rolling hills and meadows turn golden again.

Tides and Sunrise/Sunset

The Monterey County Film Commission can provide up-to-date tide tables and sunrise/sunset time calculations on request. The yearly guidebook or a chart for specific days can be quickly sent.
