Gentlemen's Agreement, 1947

Gregory Peck, Dorothy McGuire, John Garfield, Celeste Holm and Anne Revere; directed by Elia Kazan; 20th Century Fox; drama about a journalist who poses as a Jew to write about anti-Semitism; Oscar winner for Best Picture, Best Director and Best Supporting Actress (Miss Holm); also nominated for Oscars were the screenplay, film editing, Peck, McGuire and Revere; scenes filmed at various Peninsula locations.

Ghost and Mrs. Muir, 1947

The Ghost and Mrs. Muir, 1947, Rex Harrison, Gene Tierney and (a young) Natalie Wood; directed by Joseph L. Mankiewicz; 20th Century Fox; comedy about a widow's friendship with the ghost of a sea captain; Oscar nominee for cinematography; scenes filmed in February 1947 on a beach near Stillwater Cove in Pebble Beach.

Gift of Love, 1958

Lauren Bacall, Robert Stack and Evelyn Rudie (as a child star); directed by Jean Negulesco; 20th Century Fox; story about a childless couple who adopt a strange little girl; Karlsson Roth at the age of 11 was a double for Miss Rudie.

The Girl He Left Behind, 1956

Tab Hunter and Natalie Wood; directed by David Butler; story about a new recruit in the Army; scenes filmed at Fort Ord.

Gladsome, 1917

Neva Gerber, Ben Wilson, Hayward Mack, Willard Wayne, and Ed Brady; produced and directed by George Cochrane; Universal; five-reel Bluebird feature made at a cost of $30,000; fishing scenes filmed at McAbee Beach on Cannery Row; a cast of 30 was here for the filming; top cast members stayed at the old Hotel Del Monte, the rest at the Monterey Hotel.

The Graduate, 1967

Dustin Hoffman, Anne Bancroft and Katharine Ross; directed by Mike Nichols (Oscar winner); Embassy; comedy about an ex-student, an older woman and her daughter; Oscar nominee for Best Picture, screenplay, cinematography and acting (Hoffman, Bancroft and Ross); scenes filmed in front of the Carmelite Monastery just south of Carmel (Hoffman is shown driving the wrong-way in a mad dash up and down the coast).

Green Dolphin Street, 1947

Lana Turner, Van Heflin and Donna Reed; directed by Victor Saville; MGM; 19th century romance set in New Zealand; Oscar nominee for cinematography and film editing; scenes filmed at the old Coast Guard station near Big Sur (standing in for a nunnery).

Gun Battle at Monterey, 1957

Sterling Hayden, Pamela Duncan, Mary Beth Hughes, Lee Van Cleef, Byron Foulger and Ted de Corsia; directed by Carl G. Hittleman; Allied Artists; grade-B western about a gunslinger out for revenge; scenes filmed along the Monterey Peninsula coastline, including the Lone Cypress in Pebble Beach.
