Jamesburg Dish ready for the movies...

Jamesburg Dish Antenna

The Jamesburg Dish, located in Carmel Valley in Monterey County, is available for filming.  Its 30-meter dish in the midst of 160 acres of land is a fully operational, steerable dish, one of few remaining in North America. It’s currently being used as a science outreach tool.  There is a 20,000 square foot concrete bunker building, which is almost empty. For more information: www.jamesburgdish.org

New Carmel-area Mansion Available

Singer Mansion Backstairs

Just south of Carmel off Hwy. 1 is the Singer mansion, and it’s available for film production rental. Talk about big news—it’s a 10,000 square foot home, English Tudor style, and just a trail walk away from the coastline. With its stonework, massive paved driveway, and large outdoor stairway leading to a backyard garden, it has much to offer visually. Let us know if it’s of interest for your next film project.  If a production company is interested, contact the film commission at 831-646-0910.

Monterey County: A lot to film!

Monterey County is one of the largest of the 58 counties in the state. Yet its total population is less than two percent of the 37 million California residents. What else does the county offer? 2,126,080 acres of land area (3,321 square miles). Plus, there are more than 1,242 miles of county roads.

Hwy 1 No Cars

Highway One Big Sur Filming Issues

Each year Caltrans restricts intermittent traffic control along Highway 1 in Big Sur during the summer, so film projects are limited. Now’s a good time to get road shots, and also the weather is usually great this time of the year. The moratorium comes into effect between Memorial Day weekend in May and Labor Day weekend. The California Film Commission issues the permits for the state’s Highway 1.

If you need an aerial look over the highway, it can be accomplished from the driveway to the Brazil Ranch, just south of Bixby Bridge. The photo above gives an idea of the look. For access to the Brazil Ranch, contact the Monterey County Film Commission.
