Merchant Donors Needed for
REEL FRIENDS Discount Card
When hotel beds are filled on the Monterey Peninsula, everybody wins. When film productions come to our areas, local businesses, service providers and residents experience a financial boost. Did you know that film productions pour an average of $30,000 a day into the local economy EACH day of filming?
The non-profit Monterey County Film Commission works full time to promote our area to studios, production companies, and advertising agencies. Although Monterey County boasts some of the most beautiful areas in the country for filming, competition from other areas is fierce. Many states are now offering big tax incentives for filmmakers who shoot in their states.
The staff and board of directors of the Monterey County Film Commission can bring this work in, but it takes advertising and publicity and that requires more funds than the government budgets can provide.
“Reel Friends” is a group of individuals and businesses that provide support to the Film Commission. In return for the financial support they offer us, the Film Commission reciprocates by issuing a Monterey County Film Commission Friends Card. Holders of the Friends Card get discounts from participating local businesses and service providers. We have found that these discounts boost revenues at the participating businesses. Most businesses would rather discount a check 10% than have an empty table.
We see this as a win-win situation. The supporters of the Film Commission are rewarded for their support by getting discounts at area businesses. The businesses that participate and offer a discount are seeing more traffic. All participating businesses are listed by name and description in our on-line production manual and our Friends Card Merchant Donor list that is mailed to our cardholders.
Boost your business, help bring filmmakers to the Monterey Peninsula and help improve our local economy.
Thanks!
